Business is a key dimension of modern society and there has been a growing recognition of the role business education plays in the development in students of a particular appreciation of contemporary society and the world in which they live.

The Business Education staff work hard to provide courses and learning opportunities that are engaging and challenging for all students and provide transferable skills for future employment and college/university education.

In the BGE, Business and Computing colleagues work in collaboration to deliver an ICT course that develops learners’ IT and Digital Literacy skills which enable them to make use of modern technology in their learning, not just in Business and Computing subjects, but across the curriculum.

In S2 and S3, learners develop their knowledge of a range of business concepts including social responsibility, marketing and personal finance, developing their numeracy and literacy skills as they prepare for the senior phase.

In the Senior Phase, learners can choose to study Accounting, Administration & IT and Business Management (Business) at various levels. These subjects offer the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills (including problem solving, communication and information technology) which will enable learners to access, understand and contribute to the dynamic and complex business and information environment in which they live and to develop open and enquiring minds to be capable of active participation in society.

Staff in the department have a wealth of experience in industry roles and as SQA appointees, which they use to enrich lessons and ensure all learners prepare confidently to achieve highly in their senior phase examinations.

Various activities are also offered to S5/6 learners, including Young Enterprise and Investment Challenge, which promote the importance of team work, leadership and communication skills.
