So how are you finding your move into Madras College?

Mr Runciman
At first it was scary, but by getting to know people and where things are, I’m starting to enjoy it. As for first impressions, it’s an impressive school, if you ignore the faults in the buildings!

Jennifer

Why do you enjoy biology and what is your favourite aspect of it?

Mr Runciman
I think I enjoy it because so many areas of our lives concern biology, and I enjoy seeing pupils catching on to ideas.

Jennifer

Did you always want to study biology further?

Mr Runciman
When I left school, I was more into geography, and in fact geology was part of my degree. I was inspired by my Scout Leader who was a Principal Teacher of Geography.

Jennifer

What do you think the next major biological breakthrough will be?

Mr Runciman
I think we’re on the verge of being able to grow new organs for replacement that are genetically identical to a person’s own genome.

Jennifer

An important question on many minds – How do you think we should try to stop global warming?

Mr Runciman
A serious answer would be to focus on the population boom and increase awareness of recycling and reusing. But we could always make better use of the methane produced by cows.

Jennifer

And finally, what’s at the top of your Christmas wish list?

Mr Runciman
I prefer to give presents, rather than receive them. I’d have to say a steam iron though, because I like to keep shirts neat. A holiday voucher to Barbados wouldn’t go amiss either!

Jennifer

Thank you for your time!
