The exchange between Otawara city, in Japan, and St. Andrews has been running for more than 20 years. Last summer Melanie, Ross, Sandy and I were hosts to four Japanese students. Last summer, Mr Tarvet and Mr Latona kindly escorted the group on a three day tour of Highland Scotland including visits to Loch Ness, Glencoe and overnight stops at Loch Morlich and Carbisdale Castle. This summer we spent two weeks experiencing Japanese culture with the host families. We tasted interesting Japanese food including sushi, ramen and bright green tea. We met the mayor and he invited us to join him in Otawara’s annual Yoichi festival where we dressed up in traditional Japanese costumes. And of course, we couldn’t miss out on visiting Tokyo Disneyland!
