About Us

Welcome to the Design and Technology Department. Our overall aim is to provide a challenging and interesting environment in which pupils and staff can work actively together to develop practical abilities, knowledge and skills. In the main we do this by practical activity and experiences to allow pupils to apply their knowledge, skills, aptitudes and creativity. And very importantly to make links with things they have learned and practice in other subject areas across the curriculum.

As a department we work together as a close knit team to create high quality learning experiences with a practical application in Engineering, Graphic Communication, Design, Craftwork and Construction. Together we combine a rich mix of industrial, commercial and long teaching experience. Alongside an enthusiastic commitment to develop and change our practice and course content to best suit the current and individual needs of all of our pupils.

We offer a wide ranging introduction to Engineering, Graphics, Design and Craft in S1-3 which then allows pupils the choice of specialising in one or several of four subjects, 3 of which are offered up to Advanced Higher. Click on any of the links below for further information.

On each Campus we have two rooms with 21 computers, one for Engineering Science and the other for Graphic Communication.

Graphic Communication resources include the Autodesk inventor suite which provides professional quality 3D modelling of products, desk top publishing software and a wide range of exemplar materials.

Engineering resources include YENKA which is a powerful 3D Electronic and Mechanical simulation package. There is a wide range of microcontroller, electronic and mechanical resources to allow ideas to be modelled and constructed.

On the Kilrymont campus there are also three fully equipped workshops, two of which are general purpose woodworking rooms and the third is a metalworking room. In South Street there is one general purpose workshop.
