Overview

In S1 – S3 pupils studying Spanish have two periods a week teaching time. The teaching incorporates a variety of approaches with group work and project work being a feature. This allows the pupils to make presentations in the foreign language and develop key strengths across a range of techniques, including ICT, where available, and ensures that pupils are able to improve their Listening and Talking, Reading and Writing skills.

As pupils can now study Spanish from S1, below are the details of the two different pathways of study. The course that runs from S1 – S3, and the elective course which runs in S2 – S3.


S1 - S3 Pathway

S1 Course Content

In S1, three topic areas are covered:

  • Topic 1: Personal information 
  • Topic 2: School life
  • Topic 3: Free time

S2 Course Content


In S2, the theme of the learning is to equip students for "A visit to Spain". Seven topic areas are covered:

  • Topic 1: Revision of self 
  • Topic 2: In town
  • Topic 3: Accommodation
  • Topic 4: Daily routine
  • Topic 5: Food, eating out and healthy eating
  • Topic 6: Parts of the body and illness
  • Topic 7: Travel, transport and holidays

S3 Course Content

S2 – S3 Elective Pathway

S2 Elective Course Content

In the S2 elective course, pupils cover the same topic areas as the S1 course as they are beginners to the language. In addition to this, there is a lot of cultural content and scope to learn about the Hispanic world and its many festivals and traditions.
  • Topic 1: Personal information 
  • Topic 2: School life
  • Topic 3: Free time

S3 Elective Course Content

In S3, four topic areas are covered:

  • Initial revision of personal information
  • Topic 1: Food and Fiestas 
  • Topic 2: Shopping and clothes
  • Topic 3: Free time and cinema
  • Topic 4: Holidays and tourism

Homework

Pupils will be expected to:

• Revise vocabulary regularly
• Occasionally complete some project work
• Finish work started in class
• Do reading or writing tasks
