About Us

Welcome to the Design and Technology Department. Our overall aim is to provide a challenging and interesting environment in which pupils and staff can work actively together to develop practical abilities, knowledge and skills. In the main we do this by practical activity and experiences to allow pupils to apply their knowledge, skills, aptitudes and creativity. And very importantly to make links with things they have learned and practice in other subject areas across the curriculum.

As a department we work together as a close knit team to create high quality learning experiences with a practical application in Engineering, Graphic Communication, Design, Craftwork and Construction. Together we combine a rich mix of industrial, commercial and long teaching experience. Alongside an enthusiastic commitment to develop and change our practice and course content to best suit the current and individual needs of all of our pupils.

We have embraced Curriculum for Excellence as it allows us to develop further learning experiences which are pupil centred and allows high quality experiences in the application of knowledge, skills and creative ability. We offer a wide ranging introduction to Engineering and Technology in S1-2 which then allows pupils the choice of specialising in one or several of six subjects, 3 of which are offered up to Advanced Higher.
