Simon has recently taken up the position of Assistant Professor of Celtic Languages and Literatures at Harvard University.

Simon moved up to Lochaber High School in 1990 from Caol Primary School and completed his high school education with time at Madras College in 1993/94 and then Inverness High School. With no family history or background of gaelic speaking, he decided to enrol at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in Skye to learn the language and returned there in the capacity of a tutor many times.

Simon graduated with a 1st class honours, from Glasgow University, followed up by a post-graduate in teacher training, after which he went on to spend time as a primary school teacher in gaelic medium schools in Scotland. He then returned to further education for his Masters and PhD in Celtic Studies at Glasgow University. During his studies he was offered the position of Lecturer of Celtic Studies at St.Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. After a year in this position he returned to Scotland to complete his PhD before moving on to America to take up his academic career at Harvard.
